Supported React Native Libraries (Fire TV)

Android vs. Fire OS compatibility

Although Fire OS is a fork of Android, not all libraries that work on Android devices work on Fire devices.

There are a few things that set Fire OS apart from stock Android, including:

  • Google Play Services are not available for Fire OS
  • Alexa and Alexa+ are available only for Fire OS
  • Amazon offers its own suite of APIs that you can leverage in Fire OS

The main requirement to watch out for is Google Play Services, as any library that requires this will not be compatible with Fire OS. Fire OS has its own location, billing, authentication, and messaging APIs, so it’s important to implement compatible libraries in your app. For more details, see Port Existing Android App to Fire OS.
